Some of you have heard that something is going on in our scene, changes are happening - well, I'm here to tell you the reality of this.
Right up front, this is a mixed bag of news.
The worst:
January 24th will be the last Dawning hosted at Tokyo Rose.
The management has kindly given us space and supported us for years, and they are finally ready to step away from the liability of having a high-risk event in their space. Tokyo Rose will continue to showcase Jazz, Acoustic, Folk, and some Rock shows; Punk and Goth/Industrial acts will no longer be allowed. Atsushi Miura should be thanked for his graciousness and selfless service for the scene for this long. He's operated at no gain while taking many risks to have all-ages shows. Trust me, he's very unhappy that it had to come to this, and we will miss the dark basement hole we've come to call home.
Now, for the good news.
THE DAWNING IS NOT DEAD.
I am in the process of attempting to open my OWN club, where The Dawning as well as other events will be hosted. This might take a few months to get off the ground, so look for intermediate events to happen in random places until I get established.
I will keep everyone informed as to what's happening... expect something cool and fun, something that will make going out even better.
How can you help?
COME OUT TO THE LAST FOUR SHOWS.
We will be taking donations towards getting The Dawning a new home; anything you can spare to donate will be much appreciated.
Keep a positive attitude. We're not losing a venue, we're moving on to something bigger.
Support each other. And DANCE! Dance, dammit!
The last four weeks of The Dawning:
Tonight, Jan 3rd: In Tenebris and Krieg Der Kinder, with DJ Xiane and DJ Rift.
Jan 10th: DJ night with DJ AudioRapture and DJ Radioactive.
Jan 17th: Silent Muse with DJ Ju5t1ce and DJ Ki-9
Jan 24th: Throw a Wake for The Dawning! All the staff DJs will spin, and we'll leave The Rose with a bang!
Now... keep your heads up. See you there tonight!

2004-01-03 17:30 (UTC)It's a shame the venue had to pull the plug, but it seems like bigger and better things lie on the horizon. We're definitely rooting for you.

2004-01-04 00:57 (UTC)We're going to do this. And it will be *ours*, and that's really important. We'll truly have a DIY scene after this.
I was talking to the guys at Atlas, and they're worried about THEIR business, now. All the weekend traffic will go away once The Dawning is gone. I'm thinking they might start vending at the new club... which would be really cool, I think.

Good luck, my sweet friend.

2004-01-04 01:01 (UTC)Keep an eye posted here, though, because things are going to happen SOON. A new place, a new era... but still The Dawning!
Ah nuts.
2004-01-03 21:49 (UTC)Happy New Year, too!
Re: Ah nuts.
2004-01-04 01:04 (UTC)It sounds like The Dawning in CGI
2004-01-04 15:35 (UTC)and we will show up even if you don't and we have to play in your living room, most likely. Even if you don't know anything about it until it's too late. Like you walk in after grocery shopping and then - BAM! It's rock all night at an unreasonable volume (as D.W. would say).
My best wishes to you in the search for life on planet Charlottesville!

2004-01-03 22:25 (UTC)Could I just donate from here? It is exceedingly unlikely I'll be able to attend any of the last shows. Crumbs.

2004-01-04 01:06 (UTC)If you want to donate from there, that's totally cool. Even though I don't get to see you. Poo.
Let me know, and I'll email you what to do. And if you decide not to, I still think you're awesome ;)

2004-01-04 15:36 (UTC)When I get the place open, you're going to have to be one of the first guest DJs :D
Hey girl!
2004-01-04 13:01 (UTC)*hugs*
Re: Hey girl!
2004-01-04 15:46 (UTC)I will keep you in the loop as to what's happening as it goes. We're already gathering cash together and shopping for a new place!
Meep.
2004-01-04 18:08 (UTC)Okay, mourning aside, it merely means I must needs put energy into helping you (and all of us) find a new dancey home instead of helping out with The Dawning as I offered before. To wit, I probably can't donate money until later this month (when I get my student loan check/paid by my job) but when I do, I shall write you a check (to whom shall I make it out, Ms Xiane?) Expect me at the final three shows, naturally. Also, and more importantly, if there's any way I can help out at all just tell me. This scene means an insane amount to me (and to lots of peoples, of course) and I want to help very badly.
