Some of you have heard that something is going on in our scene, changes are happening - well, I'm here to tell you the reality of this.

Right up front, this is a mixed bag of news.
The worst:

January 24th will be the last Dawning hosted at Tokyo Rose.

The management has kindly given us space and supported us for years, and they are finally ready to step away from the liability of having a high-risk event in their space. Tokyo Rose will continue to showcase Jazz, Acoustic, Folk, and some Rock shows; Punk and Goth/Industrial acts will no longer be allowed. Atsushi Miura should be thanked for his graciousness and selfless service for the scene for this long. He's operated at no gain while taking many risks to have all-ages shows. Trust me, he's very unhappy that it had to come to this, and we will miss the dark basement hole we've come to call home.

Now, for the good news.

THE DAWNING IS NOT DEAD.
I am in the process of attempting to open my OWN club, where The Dawning as well as other events will be hosted. This might take a few months to get off the ground, so look for intermediate events to happen in random places until I get established.
I will keep everyone informed as to what's happening... expect something cool and fun, something that will make going out even better.
How can you help?
COME OUT TO THE LAST FOUR SHOWS.
We will be taking donations towards getting The Dawning a new home; anything you can spare to donate will be much appreciated.
Keep a positive attitude. We're not losing a venue, we're moving on to something bigger.
Support each other. And DANCE! Dance, dammit!

The last four weeks of The Dawning:

Tonight, Jan 3rd: In Tenebris and Krieg Der Kinder, with DJ Xiane and DJ Rift.
Jan 10th: DJ night with DJ AudioRapture and DJ Radioactive.
Jan 17th: Silent Muse with DJ Ju5t1ce and DJ Ki-9
Jan 24th: Throw a Wake for The Dawning! All the staff DJs will spin, and we'll leave The Rose with a bang!

Now... keep your heads up. See you there tonight!

and special thanks goes to the kids that did drugs in the bathroom, got drunk underage and vandelized the neighboring businesses, busted up the walls, set fire to the couches, started fights, etc, etc, etc.

*sigh* The Dawning was (is, damnit, IS) Atomic Box's favorite home away from home. You guys do things right down there. By far one of the best clubs and scenes I've ever encountered, and I've been all over the damn universe. Rest assured, I'll be toasting your night on the 24th... repeatedly, until I hit the floor...

It's a shame the venue had to pull the plug, but it seems like bigger and better things lie on the horizon. We're definitely rooting for you.

I'm just browsing through the comments and seeing how dedicated your fans and bands are this is just a minor setback.

Man, kids don't know how good they had it. Sushi, comics and Rock and Roll.

honestly, after all the happened last saturday at Bella Morte i am not the least surprised that it has come to this. Disappointed, of course, but not surprised.
i can't wait to see what you can throw together.

I remember how to do a business plan and prospectus from accounting school. Remember about government, state and small business grants, and large companies like Dominion Power and Sprint who offer grants too. Chief Longo will put in a good word too, I bet; he told me he thinks the goths are some of the more intelligent and civilized groups, unlike some of the businesses downtown who don't tolerate them.

Ah nuts.

Bah! Oh well, good thing we didn't book anything for soon??? Best of luck with the new venue search and I hope everything works out! Pretty crazy that the T.Rose let you guys do things there in the first place for so long, eh?

Happy New Year, too!

Eek

Could I just donate from here? It is exceedingly unlikely I'll be able to attend any of the last shows. Crumbs.

When we make this happen, I am going to shed tears of joy.

I've always wanted to run my own club. And people are rallying behind me to make this happen... I am determined! :D

Thank you *so* much. We're going to get through this thing so fast... it's going to be the best thing that ever happened to the scene here, I swear.

The first round of donations got us almost $300.

We're going to do this. And it will be *ours*, and that's really important. We'll truly have a DIY scene after this.

I was talking to the guys at Atlas, and they're worried about THEIR business, now. All the weekend traffic will go away once The Dawning is gone. I'm thinking they might start vending at the new club... which would be really cool, I think.

The past week for us and the Riot Act shows were just the last straw in a series of mishaps. But I think some people are really shaken up, now. Let's see who dares to fuck things up for us when all the people in the scene have put their money and effort into creating a new club. No one will like the person who screws it up, then. :D

Thanks for the good wishes. We'll do this!

Try to make it out for the 17th or 24th if you can. I hope that you do... I want to see everyone who had a part in the club before it is gone.

Keep an eye posted here, though, because things are going to happen SOON. A new place, a new era... but still The Dawning!

Bigger, better, stronger, MORE! That's my motto for the new space I'm going to invest my life savings into... [good thing I don't have any savings, eh?] Seriously, the scene has stepped up to bat and are giving assistance, money, and good thoughts... we will have a new place in next to no time. And THEN - you'd better get your rock and roll asses down here for a show. ;)

You are a wonderful person and I love you. :)

If you want to donate from there, that's totally cool. Even though I don't get to see you. Poo.

Let me know, and I'll email you what to do. And if you decide not to, I still think you're awesome ;)

It's a shame that a few people give the lot a bad name. Someone should kick some asses (me! me! Can I come be Teacher Goth??!!)
I don't know what happened but I can imagine/glean from what I've read here.

Good luck, my sweet friend.

You got $300 last night alone? That is kick-ass! But we need mooooooore. Must have more! Bwaha. I'm going to give monies next time I come [wasn't quite prepaired to be generous yester-evening]. You will be able to fullfill your Goth Club Goddess potential with this new place, indeed. AND NO ONE BETTER FUCK IT UP, OR TRY TO, -EVER-! or I will killllllll them!! But I'll take them off the property first. heh heh. *twitches*

You might want to set up a seperate paypal for the cause...that way those people who aren't able to be here for the last 3 weeks can easily contribute, if that is their wish.

We will come, if you build it
and we will show up even if you don't and we have to play in your living room, most likely. Even if you don't know anything about it until it's too late. Like you walk in after grocery shopping and then - BAM! It's rock all night at an unreasonable volume (as D.W. would say).

My best wishes to you in the search for life on planet Charlottesville!

Oh god, that would be fucking awesome, married lady.
When I get the place open, you're going to have to be one of the first guest DJs :D

I'm guessing that you've read the annoucement that we're going on hiatus while we move... as soon as we get the new club, I want you as a DJ here, though. Dammit.
I will keep you in the loop as to what's happening as it goes. We're already gathering cash together and shopping for a new place!

Meep.

I go away for two weeks and this is what happens?? Noooo!! I owe The Dawning all my local friends!!

Okay, mourning aside, it merely means I must needs put energy into helping you (and all of us) find a new dancey home instead of helping out with The Dawning as I offered before. To wit, I probably can't donate money until later this month (when I get my student loan check/paid by my job) but when I do, I shall write you a check (to whom shall I make it out, Ms Xiane?) Expect me at the final three shows, naturally. Also, and more importantly, if there's any way I can help out at all just tell me. This scene means an insane amount to me (and to lots of peoples, of course) and I want to help very badly.
