So. Giant Dia De Los Muertos Party at The Dawning. Was I excited? Not in the least. Not that I didn't think it was going to be excellent, oh no... but I am slowly, oh so slowly coming out of the greatly lethargic and intrinsically evil depression that has had hold of me. I managed to get into a bad spat with [livejournal.com profile] briskpepper, over not much of anything. It was mercilessly, unseasonably hot, which added to my malaise and unusal bad temper. And I just wasn't feeling "it" yet, if you know what I mean. I could have just as easily crawled back into bed and hid away, but I forced myself onward and outward, to the world at large and hopefully better things.

Blah blah blah, Xiane. Wordy wordy, and all they want to know was - how was the night?

Well, the night ended up being MARVELOUS. Things started to pick up when [livejournal.com profile] krasota and [livejournal.com profile] seeliesprite pitched in to decorate that dank pit that we host The Dawning in, making it over from a stinky basement into a festive hall of musical worship. It was complete with a altar for The Fallen Heroes, lots of floaty dancing skeletons, Die De Los Muertos folk art on the walls, and a bobbling windsock skeleton on the stage that insisted on turning to face the corner, rather like something from Blair Witch Project.
Needless to say, that cheered me greatly. After this, Jos and I ran some Halloween goodies gathering-type errands, then I went home, gathered up my CDs and some extra candy, and we were back off to The Rose.
I didn't dress up particularly spookily, I just wore my white cotton shift over a black cotton petticoat, and threw a translucent voile top with pretty ribbons on over that. I teased my hair up hugely [although it did not stay that big for long; it was entirely too hot and humid] and did light whiteface and spooooky makeup, or Makeup Of The Dead as I've taken to calling it. I think Jos took pics of it. Maybe.
[livejournal.com profile] briskpepper had a brilliant costume, which we can safely blame on [livejournal.com profile] mrjustice, as it seems to have been his idea. You see, we have a random toilet sitting in our kitchen, next to the fridge, not attached to anything. It is just residing there until we carry it down to the storage basement. *Someone* got the brilliant idea that Stu should take it to The Dawning and be "a guy taking a crap".

So, he did.
Yes, we took a toilet to The Dawning.
Yes, we're insane.

Stu dropped his pants so that he was just wearing his under-shorts, and draped a towel over himself for "modesty"... he even took magazines, and we put a roll of toilet paper on the floor next to it, and he stayed there and collected money at the door from it. He said that his ass kept falling asleep all night. I know Jos got some pics of me sitting on it, too.
No, I kept my pants up.

Meredith was Static Cling. That was excellent. [livejournal.com profile] mbickers and Cory dressed as each other, and [livejournal.com profile] solieri dressed as [livejournal.com profile] nothingoth. All the switching of personas was unsettling! [livejournal.com profile] originalcynic dressed as a dead raver, and [livejournal.com profile] malificati was an excellent Vampire Hunter. I'm tired, I know I'm forgetting people. Oh! [livejournal.com profile] audiorapture dressed as a perfect Arthur Dent, complete with his towel. I'll think of more, I'm sure. I was really overwhelmed with the whole costume thing - when I called the people up to participate, I was NOT expecting the ENTIRE stage to be filled with entrants! I barely knew how to handle the response. [livejournal.com profile] agentleman was a winner in the contest, as dead looking cyborg. I knew I was forgetting people! His costume was kickass. There were a lot of neat efforts, including some well-done expanding and collapsing faerie wings done by Maya. I gave away a lot of cool swag, CDs and some other nice items, that was fun.

Crud. I have to run back home, I'll have to continue this in a bit. Anyway, thanks for coming out, everyone. It really helped knock me out of this horrible mood I've been in.

more to come

Tehe. [livejournal.com profile] seeliespright and I were going to submit four toilets to the art gallery at the Fringe Festival. The plan was abandoned, because the faculty director didn't think it was a "serious" piece... Right. Not serious like an ASS MADE OF PENNIES. That's right. An ass of pennies. Takes "crappy" art to a whole new level. Ha ha. I joke.

I'm sorry you haven't been feeling good. >.< Best of luck clawing out of it. ::hugs::

I'll streak the club this week, if it'll make you feel better.

Not true! Yes, I did want to hear about the night from your perspective, but also always want to know how you're doing!!

And thank you for a fun time at the Dawning. I'm sad I couldn't be there longer, but pleased I got there at all!

Day of the Dead certainly helped me lift from my depression a great deal... but to the point that I couldn't stop dancing. The music was too good and I _kept_ _moving_ even though I was about to pass out.

But anyways, it was incredible and I enjoyed it. Thanx Xiane, you're the bestest. And I listened to a bit of your radio show last night but had to turn it off :( b/c of homeworkage.

Hope you have a good week

Peace
