From a comment I made on Facebook tonight, and I mean with all my heart:

Honestly, I’m fucking sick of snark. On every side. It’s not clever, it’s not funny. It’s just a way of being mean while saying “ho ho ho, it’s just a joke, why are you taking it so PERSONALLY what’s the matter with YOU?” when people object. I’ve had enough of meanness and cruelty and people taking a moment to make themselves feel better by taking a poke at others under the guise of humor.

And this has nothing to do with me being soft or an introvert or depressed or weak. I’m tired of people being mean to each other all the time. And I’m not going to be quiet about it. I think the amount of snark that people find acceptable is appalling.

People kill themselves over stuff like this. They leave communities.
I don’t, because I’m too damned hard-headed to not argue and dissect and defend. But I hatehatehate the easy way that people slip into snark as a default, especially if they disagree with something they personally find to be trivial, or if the person they’re snarking is perceived in some way to be inferior. It’s bully behavior. It’s an easy way to make oneself feel strong at the expense of others.

It is sad that we still retreat to such bully behavior, even as adults. I am ashamed that this is considered acceptable.
