2007-10-05 04:18 (UTC)Someone has been paying close attention to someone else's art as it gets popular. It's often blamed as "cheap chinese knockoffs" but really it happens a lot all over. It's REALLY easy to make patches at home if you spend the money for a decent embroidery machine. I recently bought a tank with an image embroidered on it that looks awesome, and was done at home. Imagine how tempting it is for some jackass to make a bunch of those - or sweatshop 'em - and pass them around to distributors and small boutiques. :/
http://www.youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/ - this is a great place to see copying in action, from HUGE corporations to small businesses. Urban Outfitters is WELL known for doing this shit. [if you have seen this before I apologise but hey, it's good for other people to see, too! *grin*]
I used to work in a little boutique and we would sometimes see catalogs for shit like that. It really makes me angry.

2007-10-05 15:09 (UTC)I wish I could do something about it, but I don't imagine them popping up here in Scotland (and I don't like the gothy shops here because they're wankers).

2007-10-06 08:52 (UTC)Thanks for that site, I hadn't been there before. I spent about an hour going back through entries and came to one conclusion - lots of people are lazy and unethical D: Bleh!
