Is poop. Texting LJ is guaranteed to create much hilarity for the future. I'm just glad it worked with Helio; since they buy bandwidth from other providers, they're a bit of an enigma when it comes to things like this.
I have a fancy NOT OF USA SIM card here in my old phone. And LJ does indeed hate the UK, I think because of the length of the numbers and the country codes.
I am hoping they will soon enable Text LJ for the UK since random on the spot posts always promise to be funny, especially here with the crazy things I see. I think they're behind internationally because the company is based in the US and consequently, US centred.
