Imagine Earth without... people.
Pretty interesting. Check out the light pollution map, and the graphs.

The area around Chernobyl evidently has more indigenous thriving wildlife than many suburbs. O_O

I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] daily_granola.

I think we are one at times, really. I was sitting up in the park this evening pondering the significance of humanity while I watched the sun set.

I've been contemplating a variation of that lately when examining Greek pottery.

I keep wondering: What material legacy are we going to leave behind for 2,500 years from now?

My answer, thus far, is: Not much, sad to say.

I've found this concept very interesting ever since hearing the Talking Heads song (Nothing But) Flowers. It actually makes me feel better that no matter how horribly we screw up, there's always a chance for the next sentient species to get it right. Helps me deal with the extent of the terribly things we're doing to this planet and ourselves.
