This is Stanley, our Carolina Mantis friend who lives in the basil plant on the balcony. You can see where the Japanese beetles were eating on the poor basil before Stanley showed up.
I think he/she won't mind, no matter what... unless he/she knows english and isn't telling me! [meep!]
I know that the "Carolina" mantis is all brown [there's actually a LOT of different kinds of mantis! I had no clue until I looked it up last night, because I wanted to see if I could figure out if Stanley was a boy or girl - I did find out that the Carolina Mantis is the state insect of South Carolina, how cool!] but Stanley has green legs, so who knows. :D
Stanley's grown a lot since "he" moved in - I'm going to try and keep a photo journal of "his" growth and post 'em.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Stanley is awesome.
Oh! Then, I have no idea if it is male or female, hehe! A photo diary of Stanley sounds like a cool idea... Yeah, I love the mantis and various other bugs...
