Thanks to those faithful who ventured out last night, and a BIG special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] djdayglo, who consistently blows me away with her awesome DJing. As you can see, we were feeling silly and feisty, so there's a few unexpected gems on there.

I also want to extend an apology and a clarification on our policy. Unbeknownst to us, The Depot has a charge for those between the ages of 18 and 21, a $5 cover. Two really nice people came by and had to leave because they weren't expecting that, and I'm really sorry that it happened. Our flyers will now reflect that.

Good news for those OVER 21... we have "happy hour" prices from 9p - 11p now, $1 drafts and rail drinks. This is a good reason to get to Cryptie early!

Keep an eye on this spot for some great upcoming promotions!

I know! I was too wiped to question Margaret about it after Cryptie, and I'd rather talk to her about it when no one else is there, but I was scandalized.

Evidently she seems to think that having under 21's scares the overagers... and as we saw that night, who was there to scare? O_O
Seems silly to me. I can see wanting to make *something* off the non-drinkers, but $5 is too much.

*sigh*

I was there when it all came down. The lady pointed out what the flyer said to Margaret. And we all know what the flyer said. The lady and the guy that she was with caused no major drama, but she was disappointed neitherless. They did took the time to come the Cryptkicker and were dressed in "Gothic" fashion. Its a shame they had to leave.

What Margaret should have done is let them past for that night only and requested a flyer change with the surcharge policy for the next event. It wasn't as if a lot of people where there for that night. When you make a spur of the moment change like that differs from what has already been written (for months), it sure leaves a wrong impression for new patrons who might visited there in the future. There is truth in advertisement. It is a internet world out there. Voices carry.

While is true, that the vast majority of concerts and clubs always do add a surcharge of 3 dollars or more in the 18 to 21 year old age group. It is used in order to made up for lost "bottles" sales for the event. Its a common business practice and I don't really have a problem with it. But in The Depot case, its a simply a ridiculous idea to charge anything at all. Reason being "The Depot" can't compete with the more cleaner underground establishments and venues that are out there. Hey, Goth and Deathrock attire cost money. The Depot's floor sure needs a mop and badly. Which begs to wonder as if anything else has not been cleaned in ages. When new people walk into a club for the first time and look around, they just might well think that. Free admission for everyone does The Depot good. The Depot should keep it.

So the 18 to 21 years are scaring away the old people like me? Ha ! Its more like the other way around. That age group does not want to be around the old goths like me. I'm spooky. Everytime I go to Gothic clubs and shows, I see very few people from that age group anyway. The Depot included. They are not scaring away customers. I don't know where Margaret got that information from.

You can, in fact, be over 21 at a club or venue and not drink anything at all. I did just that at the B-52 concert at "Rams Head Live" the Friday before last. They can't make you drink anything. The 18 to 21 crowd, by the way, was surcharged $3.00 on top of the ticket price for that concert.

Still its Margaret business (and its within her rights to run it as she see fit) and I still go there more often than any other clubs in the area. For the cool atmosphere, excellent music DJ sets, and cheap drink specials, that's The Depot
