I came home from work today and attacked the back yard, while I still had light to work by... and I found something hidden under all the dirt and foliage! A perfectly good brick patio was lurking under a few inches of silt and errant plants [I almost typed pants!], and after a lot of digging, sweeping, and hosing by yours truly, we have an even cooler backyard. Words cannot even express how much I love that space. It is peaceful and completely gorgeous. We have grape vines draped over a japanese-style raised patio space in the far corner... next to that, a rustic little shed that houses all the yard tools [and an unclaimed toilet, which makes it look a bit like an outhouse when you open the door!]... the brick patio lies between the raised patio and the house, and has a rough-looking table on it, perfect for al fresco dining. Trees drape calmly over everything, and birds flit back and forth, chirping happily. Hopefully they're eating all the mosquitos, but I suspect that the slanted brick patio was the culprit for bug breeding. When I sprayed the dirt off of it, I had to work hard to remove the excess water, which I shoved over the raised, empty plant beds into the garden space below.
Can you tell how much I adore my yard? The windows along my part of the house look out on it, and the view pleases me to no end.
I have blisters on my hands from sweeping and shoveling. I feel like I accomplished a lot today.
I need to get the webcam up, so I can post a shot of it!

Okay, off to shower, then moving more of my endless crap will commence.

Ohhhh that is wonderful, Chris!! I'm so glad you discovered that. I love it when you end up peeling away some ugly carpeting to find nice hardwood beneath it, etc. That's really cool. Yay for the house and the yard!!

I will have to invite you over for tea or coffee or something singularly elegant and decadent. It really is quite lovely!
I am not only completely enthralled with finding the secret bricks, but I'm also totally proud that I uncovered the whole thing by myself. I wish I'd had the forsight to take before and after pics! Of course, my blisters are punishment for being so pleased with myself ;)

*hugs aplenty*

That sounds delightful, yay...it looked splendid and squishy from the house...you need candles of some kind, or strings of purple lights out there...I actually have many boxes of purple lights that I got from Wal Mart around halloween, if you would like some. I believe I was impaired as I was shopping that day, and bought box upon box of them. Heheh. Oh these kids today.

If you haul it away when you come here to play, that's a done deal! And of course, I have to have a pic of you sitting on it. That's non-negotiable.

I suppose I should clear things like that w/ my landlord before offering, eh?
