What songs have you not heard out at a club lately, that you want to hear desperately?
I've been wanting to hear "Wash It Off" by Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel, but I know I'm the only one who's gonna play it, and I'm probably going to be the only one who will dance to it. O_o

2004-06-23 00:49 (UTC)I want to know what people have been dying to hear, in specifics, without any relief. And if I can at all work those songs into sets, I sure as hell will.
And you're welcome! I was thrilled that people actually danced to The Cramps! They danced to The Misfits, too!

2004-06-23 00:57 (UTC)I like that track, too. SP's playing DC tonight, but I'm both too poor and too tired to make the show. Everyone's raved about their tour so far, though!

2004-06-23 01:14 (UTC)2) Happy Mondays - "24 Hour Party People": I dunno...it just makes *me* dance.
3) Imminent/Imminent Starvation - "Tentack One" or "Lost Highway (Exit)": Dance-y powernoise :o)
4) Ladytron - "Discotraxx" or "Playgirl": Someone introduced me and I've been hooked ever since.
5) Any Siouxsie and the Banshees ^_^
6) Joy Division..."Digital"? "Warsaw"? "Ice Age"? "Isolation"?: Maybe they aren't as dancey as I think they are.
7) Switchblade Symphony - "Sweet" (one of the really dancey remixes...)
8) Hee...dance-y 80s ;P I don't *own* much poppy 80s, so I can't give proper suggestions.
I can't really dance, but I promise I'll go swing my arms on the dancefloor or something. Or I'll at least chair dance :P
*turns off the nerd* Okay, I'm done.

2004-06-23 02:33 (UTC)There are SO many songs I want to hear that I NEVER hear. And the worst thing is when people are always playing dance remixes of songs when the originals are absolutely WONDERFUL. Arghy. Hmmm, I'll think on it, though, and let you know [I'm sure I could make you an nice long list]. And there can always be more Siouxsie and Peter.

2004-06-23 15:13 (UTC)(2) Public Image Ltd. - Public Image
(3) Gang of Four - Anthrax (although I'm not sure if it is humanly possibly to sustain a dance to this, I figure it can't be any worse than Bela Lugosi)
(4) The Smiths - There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
(5) Killing Joke - Love Like Blood
(6) Siouxsie - Red Light, Cities in Dust (sure, it used to be overplayed, but when was the last time anyone heard it in Charlottesville?), The Passenger - or you could really blow the kids' minds and give'm Iggy
(7) New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle or Blue Monday- ditto on the once overplayed, now MIA
(8) Echo & the Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar
(9) Psychedelic Furs - Love My Way (long live 80's cheese!)
(10) Björk - Army of Me or anything else
And that's pretty much my standing list of requests for any night I attend. But no one else in Charlottesville would dance to most of them, so I guess don't play them unless everyone looks like they're tired and need a break.
What I would really like is NOT to hear 45 minutes of stompy stompy industrial music and then ONE other song, then 45 minutes of other unrelieved stompy beepy industrial songs and ONE other song, etc. What the hell has happened to the DJs at "goth" nights? Aside from you, it's like the Dawning (and the Richmond nights, from what I hear) has been taken over by Clear Channel and become a rigid, ruthlessly formatted show. I used to (not 15 years ago, five years ago) go to clubs and hear a VARIETY of music, some old school, some new styles, some goth, some industrial, maybe a little trip-hop, some kinda goth-friendly alternative... could anyone like Björk who is not strictly on format conceivably be played anymore? It seems not. Break up the format, break up the tempo, for Goth's sake play some music with lyrics in fucking ENGLISH every hour or two, and let the kiddies learn that there is life outside of strict genre programming.

2004-06-23 15:17 (UTC)Wasn't the Apotheosis declared an Unsong and yanked from distribution for all time? Not that every DJ on the planet didn't already have it...

2004-06-23 15:21 (UTC)Look man, I've got Japanese text support installed, but not Icelandic. For that matter, Grauzone is wrong, too.

I know that KMFDM's Leibesleid suffered this fate - for the same sample, in fact. Not that certain crazed fans don't still have the first pressing of Naive. :)

2004-06-23 18:34 (UTC)Christiane DID play in fact "Red Light" by SATB not last Saturday night, but the one before that. My boi requested it, and I requested Adam Ant's "Strip", she played both, we were very very very very very very very very happy.
I like some stompy stompy (but my tastes in that area are fairly limited you trust me!) but I agree that the scene is just too overrun with it, esp. when it's supposed to be a Goth night. Now Goth is just used as a general "Umbrella" term for all things "alternative" in this scene of darklings. *sigh* Gang of Four are awesome, and that you even requested a song is awesome, so thumbs up to you and btw, Cocteau Twins are by far high up there on my list of faves. I heart Liz Fraser.
When will you be at The Dawning next? =D

2004-06-23 19:07 (UTC)Siouxsie & The Banshees - anything ;)
The Cramps - again, anything, I heart them, you know this.
Clan of Xymox - Louise, Back Door, Obsession, Evelyn
Cocteau Twins - Lorelei (and pretty much anything else)
Joy Division - Decades.
Bel Canto - Intravenous
I can't think of anything else at this moment, but it doesn't really matter, I'll just come up and request it if I do ;)
I'm sure Jay will comment (he's got a live journal now...;)) with some of his own...heh, all old I'm sure!
