Woke up late, but as I hadn't gone to bed until about 4am [my favourite time of night!], getting up at 1pm isn't so bad. Right?
Awoke to a brilliant blue sky shining through my rapidly-rouging tree leaves that I can see from the bedroom window. This cheered me into actully dragging my sorry self from the warm covers and coming downstairs to check LJ for announcements of potential plans for the day. Immediately found an email from
krasota, looking to see if I wanted to go cavort around town on errands. Of course I did!
Managed to get CD-Rs for some compilation goodness [
sxoidmal, things will be made for you tonight or tomorrow - I have some cool stuff to send!], and they were even on massively good discount. Woo! Picked up a pack of CD envelopes, too, as nowhere seems to have the plastic clamshells that I prefer right now. Doom. Jos and I went to Whole Foods and snatched up some edibles, and then traveled over to Integral Yoga Foods and did the same. Mmmm, gouda cheese and marbled rye bread, granny smith apples and red pears, and fresh eggs for breakfast burritos to be eaten for dinner. Mmmmm.
Stopped off Downtown, and I did bank things, got some allergy meds [finally], and refilled my mocha tank at Higher Grounds. Reunited with Jos at Christian's, where she got pizza and I watched people on the mall. The mall is great for that sort of relaxing afternoon, just lounging about drinking coffee and chatting with friends.
After we finished up there, Jos needed to make a run to the Giant Food at Pantops Mountain. For those who don't live here, I need to take a second to describe to you how eveything looked when I got out of the car. Pantops isn't a tall mountain; none of the Blue Ridge is, really. Those mountains are OLD. But honestly, that's so evident when you look at them, it makes them majestic and lovely. The sky was so incredibly clear, and the sun was just starting to paint the ridges with purpled shadows... from the parking lot at Giant, which is wide and open all around, I could see an expanse of the mountains that stretched from left to right as far as I could see. I was breathless, enchanted, and motionless until Jos said, "Want to go see the sun set from the mountains?" YES. Yes, I did.
So we attacked the grocery store, ran off to grab Tom [her husband], and we took off up Route 64 and towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was every bit of what I wanted; we found a perfect overlook that we all like, I took some pictures - which may or may not turn out, I'm still experimenting with my camera at this point - and we wandered about the trail in the twilight until we came full circle, it was dark, and we were cold, but fully satisfied.
There's more to the day, but I think that's enough to post, the essence of what I took away from today. I am happy with the simplicity of the beauty around me today.
