Ego Likeness kicked ass. [they always do, but every show is just better and better!]
Voltaire was funny, charming, and comletely entertaining. I made him go do an encore when the crowd clamoured for it ;) That was one of the most satisfying shows I've had the pleasure of hosting and DJing!

I'm all laid back and amused at everything today. [livejournal.com profile] nothingoth, Stu and I went to see House of 1000 Corpses after I finally dragged my ass out of bed. The word I think we all agreed upon for a review was "masterbatory" - and that's not necessarily a good thing. No, wait, you should all go see it. That way we're not the only ones who did! If you love 70's style bad horror movies, it has all the aspects those flicks are known for... that's all I'm gonna say. Yeah.

So tonight I'll have guests for SubShock, helping me choose music and adding to the crazy atmosphere... if you have suggestions for [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat, [livejournal.com profile] twilight_spirit, and myself, just call us tonight between 10p and 12m EST at 979 0919 or toll free 877 967 6762!

Okay, I go and get ready for my show now. Whee!

Fuck. Why am I always paying attention when all you're booking is "hERETICS IN tHE lAB" and DJ Nites, and I forget about the Dawning for a while and you people have Voltaire and fantastic Gothic Space-Rock Ninja Clan Attack Band Ego Likeness? AHHHH DEATH. I will now check the schedule.

Fuck, that does suck that you didn't know. Voltaire swears that he's going to book a repeat show in six months, so I'll let you know as soon as that gets booked. I think Ego is going to play it with him, too. And Ego side-project The Trinity Project is coming down with some of their other side-projects in June. I have a small sampler ep CD of both bands if you want one; they left a bunch in my care.
This sat is Amber Spyglass, who I also like greatly and think you might too... with In Tenebris. Lots of female vox and swirly goodness.

House party?

Ah yes... House of a 1000 Corpses... masterbatory would have meant I got something out of it. It needs 2 reviews in order to be fair. The first - It was great at what it was intended to be - a tribute to the schloky B-movie horrors that Rob Zombie loves so much. The second - if you want to be disturbed - watch Dr. Caligari, if you want to see lots of blood - see Hellbound, if you want to see cliched horror humor - see Scary Movie... is anyone getting the point...?
Sigh... day 2 - there were 30 people in the theater.. word spreads fast.

I found that the meandering and repetitious quality of the movie ruined any thrill I might have got from a tribute, which is why I used masterbatory. Rob Zombie probably whacks off to this every damn night. If it had been a series of 5 minute videos, it would have been brilliant.

Dr Caligari is in a class by itself!
