hello from the depths
5 April 2007 17:30Stuff I've been meaning to say:
Congratulations, Vomitus. You have managed to give me a gift that keeps giving: GERD. I enjoy the fact that no matter what I eat or don't eat, I seem to get acid reflux every night since your last visit. I'm glad I have something so permeating to remember you by.
I'm currently feeling pretty ill right now, ill enough to cancel making mineral eyeshadows and practice putting up the EZ-up tent with
lipplenip. That sucks. I was going to introduce her to my Little Red Wagon, too. [currently in search of a name]
I canceled my Live365 account. For you, the reader, this means that if you were previously enjoying Radio Xiane, you have until April 27th to listen to the current rotation. I want to start posting podcast broadcasts instead, but if there's no interest then I won't bother. [that's your cue to say "yes chris pls" or"I'm sick of your musical taste anyway" or "I like peanut."] I can make this into a poll if that's what you need to feel involved in the decision-making process.
I got my first wholesale account offer this week. I sent my prices over and haven't heard back. Go me. I also got ripped off for the first time as a buyer on Etsy. Considering that I've been a member since August 2005, that's not too bad of a record.
I have to drag all my sproutlings in this evening, because they're calling for possible sub-freezing temps. Ack. I have beautiful lettuce going, happy purslane and persian cress, johnny-jump-ups, brussel sprouts... all that will be camping on my washer tonight!
squeegee_cat continues to be a life-saver. After all this horrible pet food recall action, I realized although I was trying to be a good cat mom and make good food choices, I was feeding my cat something akin to high-end fast food. I am now transitioning him to a raw diet and he's been really funny about it. He sings arias after a particularly good meal. He's also been ridiculously cuddly with me. Overall, he's just an excellent feline friend and I'm lucky he's here.
here are some letters.
a. Soy yogurt does not get a thumbs up.
b. Despite what my cat thinks, I do not like being awakened by having a nose inserted into my nose.
c. I really like assembling things. Putting together the wagon made me really happy.
d. Smart Water really saves the day for me.
e. We keep buying cookbooks but don't cook as much as we should.
f. GERD + Vegan Indian food = ACK.
g. Bananas help this a little.
h. I miss crab watching.
look for more alphabet in later installments.

Um, I like Bread and Butter?
2007-04-05 22:29 (UTC)Sorry to hear about the ill, the vomitus and the GERD :( Sounds like an unholy trifecta.
And I vote Yay! for podcasts! The joy of the Internet is that, in many ways, it's "forever" (well, enough for my imagination, heh).
a) right now they'll get listeners' ears and you'll be reaching out and touching those people with the kind of take on things only a DJ can do. pfft, conductors...they're only orchestrating instruments, heh. you orchestrate orchestrations in a way intended to orchestrate brains and bodies, too...when yer full ON, ppl get up and dance! or they feel, for a little while, like you make them feel. so, pretty damn nifty trick you pull off there, which leads to...
b) let's just say, somehow, in spite of link swapping and other net-market-wizardry, somehow someday you have zero listeners and it stays that way for a while (which I can't quite fathom), you've still got the material. who knows who one day would trip across it, long-forgotten as it may be, and your wizardry is brought to life again? anything you create now will still be around for posterity's and nostalgia's sake, eh :)
i have weird romantic notions like that :) do it if you love it and share if you feel like it, regardless of who joins in on the party *g*

2007-04-06 03:12 (UTC)I've honestly been thinking about doing those as well. I can't for SubShock right now (long story but it involves the equipment not being available during my shift) but I have almost all the equipment to do it from home.

2007-04-06 06:00 (UTC)Vote duly noted. I think you're backing the winning horse. Compliance on my part can be secured by producing more goat-related photos. ;)

2007-04-06 06:09 (UTC)I currently have 132 presets for Live365, so *someone* was listening. Hopefully I'll be able to draw in more listeners for an always-available podcast. Having listeners [hopefully] guarantees that I'll be able to secure new music which is good for everyone, and at the least helps me get some exposure for awesome bands. Rar!
Thank you as always for your support. You rock!

2007-04-06 06:11 (UTC)Squeegee is eating pretty well right now. He's eating fresh chicken and turkey and fish. Me, I eat vegetables and grains. Rob eats whatever the cat's eating when he can. ;)

2007-04-06 06:30 (UTC)I have a couple of ideas as to why the equipment is unavailable. Mike has traditionally used that time slot to be annoying, I mean get "things" done. Or are they pre-recording overnights in there? Meh.

2007-04-06 10:15 (UTC)As for your recording, make sure you've got a damn good soundcard in your computer. A regular one is not going to handle the musical input as well. That's one of the reasons we record on JDavyd's computer and not mine (that and because he's damn good at mizing tracks).

2007-04-07 00:41 (UTC)And "b" cracked me up ^_^
Kira has GERD and has been taking Nexium for the past couple of years, and it's kept it pretty well under control. She's tried a few other meds, but that one is best for her. It's sometimes hard to get insurance to cover it, and you generally have to try others first, but one of those might be just the thing for you. Prilosec can be good stuff for certain people :)
Please take care of yourself with this -- esophageal damage is *cumulative*, and untreated reflux can cause permanent problems and increase your cancer risk :/
If you have any specific GERD questions, we're happy to share our limited expertise!!

2007-04-07 02:32 (UTC)I remembered that Kira was doing well with Nexium; I've heard good things about it.
What sucks is that I have NO insurance. Rob's job doesn't provide for me, and I'm self-employed. So for now, I have to do what I can. Having advice really helps - at least I can start trying OTC meds based on recommendations for now. I've been worrying about my throat - heh, there's a double-edged sword. I need to not worry, so I don't get stressed out and vomit. My throat is in danger because of my vomiting, so I worry. Gah.
*puts on happy face* :D

2007-04-07 02:39 (UTC)Prevacid was prescription-only (now available OTC) and was the best medicine on the market before Nexium came along -- my ex-lover took it for years and it really did help.
I am rambling and tired. Hi.
Seriously, though, the BEST thing you can do for yourself is to start trying things -- a doctor would do the same thing (medication trials), because there is no one magic bullet for GERD.
The one thing that a doctor might be able to do would be to test you for heliobacter pylori, which can cause some ulcers and gastric reflux -- if you haven't been tested and you do get the opportunity, it might be worth checking out.
So, start trying OTC meds and see if one works for you . . . and, if it does, hey presto! If it doesn't, don't give up -- they're all subtly different from each other, and each of them works well for some people.
Best of luck!!

2007-04-07 03:39 (UTC)I most certainly recommend going to a doctor because getting a prescription for Nexium (or Aciphex) is much cheaper than paying over the counter to get enough Prilosec. However, I actualy have a bunch of the Prilosec that I purchased when I ran out of Nexium and didn't have Aciphex - that I can mail to you. I don't know where I put your address, though, so you'd have to give it to me again. I don't need it so there's no reason to have it around here.

2007-04-07 03:42 (UTC)Well, without insurance, Nexium is just too expensive and I'm pretty sure any of the acid pump inhibitors of that class are really fucktastically expensive. As I said, you can have the Prilosec I have since I don't need it and that will hopefully help some.
You definitely need to manage the reflux, however, because not only are you going to destroy your teeth from vomiting so much, but your esophagus is continually being damaged by the acid reflux. I (and anyone with reflux) had corrosion on my esophagus and the medicine reduces the acid so that your body can heal. Without the meds, I'm not sure what could happen.
